Highlights of the Malta budget 2026 in relation to employment and business updates, presented by the Finance Minister, Clyde Caruana.

Workers

  • Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for 2026 will be €4.66 per week.
  • Social security contributions paid before the age of 18 will now count towards pensions.

Business Industry and Technology

  • €100 million fund (national and EU resources) announced to boost AI training and business digitalisation.
  • Business Development Scheme by Malta Enterprise to be extended. This scheme facilitates value-added projects, including new business initiatives, start-up, expansions and transformation activities that shall contribute to the regional development of Malta.
  • A new complex for SMEs in ?al Far will be developed by Indis in the next two years.
  • Government to subsidise pay rises for workers who have spent four years with one company (covering 65% of a pay raise for workers in Malta and 80% for those in Gozo) as part of the MicroInvest Scheme.
  • Local companies to receive a 60% tax credit on investment over a period of four years.
