Incorporating a company in Malta

Business structure:

The first step is to determine the busintess structure. The most common company structure in Malta is a private limited company – Limited or Ltd. As part of the structure planning is deciding on the shareholders and shareholding, the director/s and one company secretary.

Company name:

Choosing a unique company name that is not already used by another company in Malta is a must. The chosen company name should end with Limited or Ltd and must be approved by the Malta Business Registry (MBR). Register the company:

When registering the company at MBR, you must submit a number of required documents including the memorandum of association and articles of association, and proof of identity of Directors and Shareholders.

Once registered, you will need to obtain a Tax Identification number from the Office of the Commissioner for Revenue as well as a VAT number from the VAT Department.

Corporate bank account:

The next step would be to open a corporate bank account to handle the company’s financial transactions.
